About the program

New Music School offers Adult Students, over the age of eighteen, private lessons on all instruments. Our Faculty work individually with each adult student to identify the performance goals they have in mind. Whether your desire is to learn piano or oboe, New Music School provides top notch beginning, continuing, and concert level lessons for our adult students. NMS's faculty work regularly with the adult who is just starting lessons to the collegiate student who would like summer lessons when they are in town. We invite you to join the NMS Adult Program.

In our Adult Program, students attend weekly private lessons, quarterly socials, attend Master Classes at their leisure, and two salon performances annually. Each adult session is eight weeks. After your session is complete, feel free to continue or pause.

Lessons are held at our school located at 30 East Adams in Chicago, as well as at students homes and at satellite locations. In addition, all lesson programs are tailored to fit each student's needs, goals, and availability. These advantages allow our students to follow very viable and sustainable music learning paths, and they also make New Music School by far the most flexible option for music lessons in the entire Chicago area.

Rates for lessons vary based on instrument, location and other criteria, but a great number of them start at only $30 per session!

The Process

At New Music School, the priority is making sure the student/teacher relationship is sound. Once you are ready to enroll, NMS will set up one private lesson with a recommended teacher. If the relationship between you and teacher is great, NMS will officially register you in our program. If there is not a perfect match, we would follow the same process with another teacher until the relationship is agreed on by both you and the teacher. At NMS, we are confident there is  a teacher for all of our Adult students.
